My Week - Richard Wain
Posted on May 22, 2009
Monday

Rise at 6.30am, shower, breakfast and 45 minute drive to the office in Uttoxeter from my home in Loughborough. A full day in the office - much needed as our annual family holiday is just around the corner. Report to be written for a client on a planning strategy for a small development opportunity. Negotiations with purchasers of an 11 acre development site in Scunthorpe that we are marketing. Emails and correspondence with other clients. Home for 6.30pm to put children to bed and then to the gym for a run. Back in time for the next instalment of 24!

Tuesday

Rise at 6.00am. Meeting with clients in Harrogate at 8.30am regarding a major urban extension scheme. Lunch in Leeds with planning lawyers to discuss ways in which we can introduce work to each other, in particular compulsory purchase opportunities. Drive back to office to update emails and to get my head around a new computer that has been installed. Take work home and finally finish at 10.00pm

Wednesday

In to the office for 8.00am to complete a valuation report for a client which takes much of the morning. In the afternoon catch up on missed telephone calls and emails then onto writing a presentation which will be read out at a planning committee meeting tomorrow night on behalf of a client in support of their planning application for a small development project. Back home for 7.00pm and down to the gym for some thinking time.

Thursday

Site meeting with builders on a house that I am moving into in August to discuss rebuilding works and programme for other ongoing works. Back to the office for 10.30am in order to prepare agendas for a meeting in the afternoon with a client to discuss consultant instructions on a major urban extension which we are project managing. After meeting with client back to Loughborough to Charnwood Borough Council’s offices in order to present our clients application at committee meeting - deferred! Get back home just in time to put the children to bed and to go down to the gym for a bit more thinking time and listen to the new Prodigy album on the ipod.

Friday

Thank goodness it is the end of the week. It is also the last day in the office before our holiday and there is lots to do - emails to send out and reports to finish off in order to leave a clean and tidy desk before going home to finish the packing before we leave on Monday. Friday night is a drink with the boys at the local pub and finally home to bed at 11.30pm and hope that the children do not wake me too early on Saturday.

Saturday

6.00am and my six month old daughter Annabel is rumbling around and making noises which wakes my 3 ½ year old daughter Sophie - the day of rest starts early. Saturday is swimming day with Sophie, I’m very proud of my little girl as she is now swimming completely unaided at the age of 3 ½ . Over to our future house in order to help my mum and dad move in to their part of the property. I finally get home at 6.00pm and at last have some relaxation time with the children before they go to bed and my wife and I order a much deserved takeaway curry.

Sunday

Much rushing around as the bags are packed and Sophie is getting excited about going on an aeroplane to Portugal. It is my responsibility to cook the Sunday roast and so in amongst the packing I cook a beef dinner with homemade Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings! After lunch go for a walk with the children and hope to tire them out before bedtime as they will no doubt be excited about getting up early on Monday morning to go on holiday. We finally get to bed at 11.30pm ready for the early morning airport check-in at 7.30am.
