SAIGHTON CAMP, CHESTER - SUCCESSFUL PLANNING APPEAL
Posted on Apr 30, 2010
Since 2005, Hawksmoor have been involved in the development proposals for the Saighton Camp site which is a former army camp which was last used for military purposes in the early 1990s.

Hawksmoor advised retained clients in relation to the purchase of the site from the Ministry of Defence and, subsequently, have project managed the site through the development system. The first step was to win planning consent for 105 residential units on the site of the former officer’s quarters and on 15 April 2010, a Planning Inspector granted planning consent for a further phase of development comprising 375 residential units plus a small commercial/retail centre and some limited employment land. As well as Steve Fawcett acting as project manager in the period leading up to the appeal Inquiry, Brian Egerton and Steve Fawcett both gave expert evidence at the Inquiry in relation to the issue of viability which was an issue raised by the Council in their evidence.

Hawksmoor are now retained to deal with outstanding planning issues relating to the conditions imposed by the Inspector and in relation to the marketing of the site to residential housebuilders.

Hawksmoor also continue their role of project manager in relation to the aspiration to develop the remainder of the site for around 450 further residential units.
