Hawksmoor has completed the multi-million pound sale of a former salt works.

Hawksmoor has sold the New Cheshire Salt Works on behalf of British Salt for an undisclosed sum.

The 7.67 hectare site in Northwich, Cheshire, was bought by a company called New Cheshire Business Park through an open market tender.

The site was identified as having industrial and commercial development potential and was marketed on that basis by Hawksmoor.

It is believed that New Cheshire Business Park is planning a mixed development which could include properties for factory, warehouse, office and possible car showroom use.

As part of the tender process, Hawksmoor interviewed potential buyers to ensure they could adhere to a strict timetable imposed by the vendor to avoid delays and to meet British Salt's end of financial year deadlines. This was achieved and the site disposed of unconditionally.

To encourage the submission of unconditional offers, Hawksmoor produced a master plan for the site which was given formal suport by the planning authority, Vale Royal Borough Council.

A ground investigation and transport assessment were carried out to inform interested parties of the potential costs of obtaining planning consents for development.

Rob Jones, managing director of British Salt said: "We commissioned Hawksmoor to market and sell land and buildings surplus to our reuqirements. They performed this work in a very professional way, enabling sale of the property within a tight time constraint while, additionally, exceeding our price expectations. We were very pleased with their service and will have no hesitating in commissioning them for future work."

Darren Ridout of Hawksmoor said: "We are delighted to have secured this sale for British Salt within the set terms and deadlines and we hope to work with them again in the future."
